This ledger was donated to the Society by the late George Garland. The first few pages are labeled Camp Dudley which then changes to Fort Montgomery. Years after the entries, which begin in 1838, Leonidas H Garland used the blank spaces to write his family birth dates, old time cures and for practicing his writing skills. He also wrote a short biography of himself on the pages. Lamar Marshall has digitized the entire ledger so that we could share it with others. It is a fascinating look at early days in Western North Carolina. |
